So, throwing this out for suggestions. I use an old Zoom H4 recorder as an external audio interface on my phone with an OTG cable to get good stereo sound in (have one of my headphone mixes from my 18i8 set up specifically for this). But I seem to be limited by the apps available.
The built-in Android video camera doesn’t seem to care about external audio. I found a lot of recommendations for Open Camera which ostensibly works well, but the audio is out of sync with video. A forum thread I found suggested recording only to internal memory (I am) and reducing frame rate to 15 (I have) fixes the problem. It does not. Reducing video bitrate closes the gap, but it’s still there and really starts to look bad.
I haven’t tried the Android Instagram App in a couple weeks, but last try, it ignored external audio.
Facebook Live works well enough (if external audio is connected before you launch the app), but renders down to mono.
I could revert to recording audio and video separately and syncing later (or fixing the Open Camera sync in post/before uploading, but it’s a PITA when all you want to do is share quick snippets.
Thoughts? @audulus how are you managing? iOS?
