The acronym changes often and even native English speakers (well, this one, anyway) can get lost. LGBTQIA seems most common these days and I mostly see it decoded as: Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, Asexual. Sometimes there’s an all-inclusive + on the end. Sometimes another Q to add “Questioning,” or any number of additional letters. As I said, it’s constantly evolving and there’s been many an article and probably scholarly paper written about it.
There’s an alternate (which always struck me as a cheeky bite on the evolution/growth of the more common acronym, but that’s my own take) which is QUILTBAG. Quilts are comfy, and the bag can hold anything? Maybe I’m overthinking it.
Anyway, isn’t language fun?
