I worked as an audio engineer for a 1200 seat theatre until recently. I’ve seen all sorts of kit come through with touring productions. But my personal favourite is RME. One primary reason being that total mix the RME control interface, plays nice with Qlab, MIDI, OSC and provides a clear and simple layer of control for integration with your front of house or record.
One setup I used frequently in house was with the DigiCo SD8 and a RME UFX. The pair managed to be be the most flexible solution for running shows with multiple speaker configurations and modifications throughout the duration of a show. Additionally it sounds great, and has 2 ADAT inputs if you’d like to expand with the RME OCTAPRE or other ADAT I/O.
