When I started to research Eurorack one of the companies that stood out was Mutable. I’m an open-source advocate, and I really admire the stance of Mutable. To share the code and blueprint for the modules seems generous and inspiring in this world of copyright and lawsuits.
In part because of that stance, I’ve been buying Mutable modules (they also really rock). To me, it seems disrespectful to mass produce or support a Mutable knock-off.
This is not to say that the DIY mutable projects are subject to this criticism. Making your own seems like a great tribute to the open-source ethic and a way to modify the module to be your own. I’m not talking about you.
I was watching @robinv’s (Molten Music video) and he was talking about desiring a smaller HP Clouds and it got me thinking about the ease of getting ubraids or a blue lantern knock off.
What do y’all think? Is size the primary drive? Cost? Any ethical objections?
